Back-to-School BioBeers!

It’s Back-to-School & Back-to-Denver for BioBeers. We hope the summer was a fruitful time for you. Needless to say we are excited to kick-off ( yet) another exciting season of BioBeers, coming to you from live from high above the Mile High City – 27 floors high to be exact – at the swanky Peaks Lounge in the Hyatt Regency – Denver.

The Conference features investors from San Fran to Boston and presenting companies not only from here in Colorado (like…Beacon Biotechnology, Biodesix, BiOptix, GlobeImmune, MyoCept and ValveXchange, to name a few) but also from Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Montana (like…Axial Biotech, Castle Biosciences, LigoCyte Pharmaceuticals, Medipacs, NanoMR and Numira Biosciences, to name a few).

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to all of our guests from out of town to come join us at BioBeers and unwind after what is certain to be an exciting, though long, day of presentations and partnering meetings. Peaks Lounge is a delightful 7 short block walk from the Ritz Carleton. Hope to see you there!

BioBeers Tonight: Be There or Beware

But before you attend BioBeers be certain to attend the Colorado Bioscience Association BioBoulder Networking Reception 5:30 – 7:00 at Rembrandt Yard. More info (HERE). Then just when you think it is time to head home for dinner, enjoy a summer evening with the family and walk the dog beware, because it is actually time for BioBeers 7:00 – ?, just a few blocks away at the Foundry Roof-top Deck. More info (HERE). It is an all night BioBoulder networking extravaganza.

There is also a little wrinkle thrown in for tonight. We are holding an informal poll to help determine where to feature the next BioBeers, how can you cast your vote? Simple…if you are a Denverite headed north for the night check in with me and if you are a Ft. Collinsite headed south for the night check in with me. If more friends from the north arrive at BioBeers then it is Ft. Collins for July, if more friends from the south arrive at BioBeers then it is Denver for July, and if it is a tie then it is back to Boulder for July.

BioBeers Next Meeting: 24 June

Where: The Foundry, 1109 Walnut St. Boulder 80302

BioBeers Next Meeting: 29 April 6:00pm

BioBeers is locked and loaded for Tuesday 29 April at our new start time of 6:00pm, enabling even more networking time over the malts and hops; BioBeers is working overtime for you! Now there has been some debate about where to hold this months’ BioBeers, so we elected to settle the question the democratic way by asking you all to vote early and vote often on BioBeers.com. The finally tally...

Denver 35
Boulder 18
Ft. Collins 11
Colorado Springs 0

Those sentient to the barley and yeast flowing along Pearl St. may be familiar with the Mountain Sun or perhaps the Colorado Kind Java Porter served up at the Sun’s SOBO cousin, the Southern Sun. Well despite Denver tallying the most votes, we are efforting to bring a little taste of Boulder to Denver by meeting at the recently opened Vine Street Pub (which completes the Mountain Sun family trifecta).

Now don’t lose faith all ye Bio-Boulderites...for the BioBeers May edition will be packing its bags and heading north to be held somewhere in the shadow of the Flatirons next month, so sit tight. Your suggestions for fav locale are welcome!

When: Tuesday 29 April 6:00pm
Where: Vine St. Pub, 1700 Vine St. Denver 80206

As always please kindly RSVP with the click of a mouse at BioBeers.com. Thanks and see you soon for a cold one…

BioBeers Is Meeting Tonight!

And the BioBeers beat marches on in March at the Milwaukee Street Tavern. Do you speak Cherry Creek? That’s right the Colorado BioBeers tour continues, pulling in next to the Milwaukee Street Tavern station, TONIGHT 31 March 7:30pm. This month we are including FREE name tags! Bonus! And suitable for framing too after the event.

It is exciting to see this event grow, so much so that name tags are now considered value-add. Participation has come from Ph.D. and MBA students all the way up to company CEO’s and representation from just about every position in between. But, BioBeers can not do it simply on its own…that’s right, it is up to you, dear Colorado bio-networker, to help spread the word!

BioBeers is back in action and kicking off a fantastic 2008. Be sure to join us for fun and networking at the oh so chic Forest Room Five (located across I-25 from the downtown REI).

We would like to feature our existing and new members on the BioBeers site so that you may leverage this platform to eNetwork when you are at work, at play or even sleeping, this internet thing is pretty cool eh? So if you are interested in becoming an ‘official’ member please email me your profile using the same format as the co-founders have done. Please send to arubenstein@rnaventures.com.

If you plan to attend be certain to RSVP on the site too. Doing so simply requires the click of a button and you are done. But don’t stop there…as of this writing you’ll note that the IPA is neck-and-neck with the Brown Ale. There are a few more weeks left to vote on the keg of beer that our very own member, Freddie Peyerl, Ph.D. will be brewing up for our March meeting. Mmmm…beer…

Now That Was Fun!

THIS IS A REPOST FROM BIOBEERS.COM

Wow…BioWest, Christmas Party and BioBeers all rolled into one fun and late evening! Our group grew by leaps and bounds attracting some 40+ folks. It was great to see a wonderful mix of Ph.D. and MBA students, faculty, bio-preneurs, start-up junkies and folks from biotech and pharma rubbing elbows while throwing back a few eggnog’s, why even Santa got into the BioBeers mix! I tried to post some videos from the evening but counsel recommended immediate removal based upon the series of FCC inquiries suggesting obvious infractions of the Telecommunication and Decency Act of 1996.

So we are now pointing the BioBeers ship towards 2008 and looking to nail down our next date and dance with debauchery. At the moment 10 or 11 January, again in Denver, appear to be bubbling to the surface. More on that later…

I’m afraid a few homework items are in order:

  • Be certain to sign up for the BioBeers email list
  • If you attended the December dance and plan a return trip to BioBeers in January please send me (arubenstein@rnaventures.com) your profile for posting to this site. Consider it your ticket to paradise, no profile then good luck getting past the bouncers
  • The last thing we need is another url destination where I wax on, let’s make this site a bit more interactive, so…if you attended BioBeers please click on comments below and tell us a bit about your favorite part of BioBeers, BioWest, your start-up or anything else that may come to mind. For the founders consider your comments to be your ticket to paradise, no comment then good luck getting past the bouncers
  • Finally, the February meeting will have a keg of brew brewed especially for BioBeers from a very special member, whose identity shall be unveiled at a later date, so…be certain to look to the left and down and vote for your favorite flavor

You’re Cordially Invited to BioBeers(.com)!

Dear Friends of Colorado Bio,

You are cordially invited to attend the BioBeers gala the evening of 6 December 7:30pm (@ Harry’s Bar 818 17th St Denver). We hope you are able to join us following what is certain to be an enthralling first day of the BioWest Conference and Expo.

For more information about BioBeers and the invitation please take a look at the new website (here) or http://biobeers.com

So what exactly is BioBeers you say? Well, Colorado has a rich history (and growing) in the life science industry...a fundamental component to accelerate the region towards achieving a top-tier bio-cluster ranking is a thriving and nurturing bio-entrepreneurial community. BioBeers is designed to function as an accelerant, where like minded bio-preneurs gather once a month to share ideas, cultivate business relationships and build life long friendships.

Now just a bit of homework for you:

  1. Sign-up for email updates from BioBeers
  2. Submit your one-click anonymous RSVP at BioBeers
  3. Submit your new member profile to BioBeers
Thank you. We look forward to seeing you at BioWest and BioBeers!
